{"id":306,"date":"2025-01-24T13:31:01","date_gmt":"2025-01-24T13:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sacredjourneytherapy.com\/bloggworks\/?p=306"},"modified":"2025-06-24T13:32:07","modified_gmt":"2025-06-24T13:32:07","slug":"ontario-connecting-more-people-in-peterborough-region-to-mental-health-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sacredjourneytherapy.com\/bloggworks\/?p=306","title":{"rendered":"Ontario Connecting More People in Peterborough Region to Mental Health Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PETERBOROUGH \u2014\u00a0<a>The Ontario government is making it faster and easier for people in Peterborough and surrounding communities to connect to high-quality, comprehensive mental health and addiction care services by expanding the mental health crisis unit at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a>\u201cThis investment to enhance the PRHC Crisis Response Unit showcases our government\u2019s commitment to addressing mental health challenges,\u201d said Dave Smith Member of Provincial Parliament for Peterborough-Kawartha. It will significantly impact the lives of patients and their families in Peterborough and nearby regions, allowing our healthcare professionals to maintain exceptional care for those in need.\u201d Added MPP Smith.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a>The province\u2019s investment will support the expansion of the mental health crisis unit to ensure the hospital is better equipped to deliver responsive and comprehensive care to those in crisis.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once opened, the expanded mental health crisis unit will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Additional capacity to address high volumes of acute mental health and substance abuse incidents<\/li>\n<li>New crisis unit beds<\/li>\n<li>Separation for adult and youth mental health patients to enhance the delivery of care, so they can receive the appropriate and high-quality care in a safe space<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a>As a next step, the ministry is working with\u00a0Peterborough Regional Health Centre to complete early planning and design for this project.\u00a0<\/a>Once further planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur government is making record investments to connect more people to the care they need, when they need it, no matter where they live,\u201d said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. \u201cBy expanding the mental health crisis unit at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, our government is ensuring people and families in Peterborough and across Eastern Ontario have faster access to mental health and addictions support services, for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a>Through\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/your-health-plan-connected-and-convenient-care\">Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care<\/a>, the Ontario government is expanding and modernizing Ontario\u2019s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to the high-quality care they need, where and when they need it. In 2020, the province introduced the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/roadmap-wellness-plan-build-ontarios-mental-health-and-addictions-system\">Roadmap to Wellness<\/a>, a plan to build a modern, world-class mental health and addictions care system.\u00a0The government continues to introduce and expand on innovative new programs to ensure access to connected and convenient care to support the health and well-being of all Ontarians.<\/p>\n<p><strong>QUICK FACTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>from last year.
